Reflections seem to be a natural process for us as people. I have come to believe that people have two very distinct entities, the ego and the spirit. I also have come to believe that the spirit is the least tapped into power that mankind utilizes. The ego is very powerful and we are surrounded by ego triggers. Media, advertising, careers, sports and other people are all ego builders. The outlook of the ego sees the vulnerability of spirit as weak only building itself up. Yet the “vulnerability” of the spirit opens a door to a world unknown to most. Where the world of the ego lives within it’s limited views the spirit lives in a near unimaginative boundless world. Writing a letter to my younger self helps keep lessons learned in front of me as long as I keep the balance. Reflections that are ego driven are out of balance. They can create a greater outcome than it actually was or it can create a number of emotions that have little to no relevance in the present moment such as fear or anger. So, my letter would look something like this.
Trust me, the challenges are the doorway to your greatest life.
Dear Bill
The life that you see in front of you right now is a fraction of greatness that lies ahead of you. Fear will control most of your daily thoughts and it will try to strangle most of your dreams making them feel out of reach. You will have to remind yourself of accountability and perspective. Most important, you will have to learn the difference between ego driven thoughts and the direction of the spirit. What appears to be the vulnerability of the spirit, will become your strength. You will have to learn to let go of fear and anxiety and enjoy life as it comes to you. The more open you are to life and the more self aware you become about the world’s balance the more successful you will become.
God has blessed you in many ways. It will take practice to see everything that he has given you. Even at an early stage of life, high school, God will give you the love of your life. If you allow her, she will teach you about love, the strength of vulnerability, forgiveness, and how to be a great father. The faster you let go of the ego, the grander life will become. There will be nothing greater than the love you have for your family. God has blessed you, live it to the fullest and never lose faith. Speaking of faith, God will challenge you. Some of the most difficult times that you will live through will seem devastating. Devastating to the point that you will question if it is worth going through the pain. Trust me, the challenges are the doorway to your greatest life. Remember your guidelines for your life and be grateful for what God has blessed you with and MOVE forward in faith. All the tools including your life partner have been given to you but you need to keep your spirit in control. This will take practice, awareness, balance and forgiveness. You have to free the mind from the chains of the ego.
Move forward in spirit because you are a lucky man.
Your future
Bill
